Eight years follow-up of a generalized epilepsy patient with eating-induced late-onset epileptic spasms and atypical absence with myoclonic jerks

PurposeEating epilepsy was previously known as a kind of focal reflex epilepsy. However, the development eating-induced multiple generalized seizures and associated EEG changes were rarely reported. Herein, we present 13-year-old patient with since age 5.Case presentationThe male had suffered from late-onset epileptic spasms during meal 5. Meanwhile, he also experienced spontaneous period sleep. The seizure frequency type gradually increased 7 years age. In addition to spasms, started experiencing atypical absence myoclonic jerks meal. Ictal presented appearance an irregular slow-wave mixed polyspike wave intake food, evolved bursts complexes. At end meal, returned normal. Nevertheless, at 13, his appeared new type, besides spasm absence, began experience sleep awaking-generalized tonic-clonic in morning. this taking valproic acid, topiramate clonazepam, reduced.ConclusionIn conclusion, case demonstrated variability eating induced types, eight follow-up indicates that progressed clinical our contribute better understanding electro-clinical features course such seizures.
